It all depends on your relationship and how secure the two of you are. I've worked with married couples before and I could tell they had a blast working together. You just have to be professional enough to keep the drama away from work.
I dated someone for a long time while working promos. The only thing that bothered him was that he didn't agree with some of the work I was doing. He didn't want me doing gambling, tobacco, and liquor promotions. That was one of the few conflicts we had.
But as said earlier, anything can work. As for me, I don't think I would stay in a relationship while on tour. Good Question.

I have been in debat about this. I have a boyfriend of a year and a half, and I am interviewing for my first tour. I've never had anyone this serious in my life before, so it does interfere. I do like the single life a whole lot better. It's easier to just not have a relationship weighing on you and taking up your time. He is encouraging me to go, which makes me know he is a good guy....but who knows. I guess it's just a crossroad that I have to figure out.

Call the ADD office sometime and just listen to the hold message it is hilarious.
I worked with that company a few times in Phoenix promoting and working a similar Extreme Sports and punk show. Was yours sponcered by Zumie's?
This was a fun company to work for but there is a general sense of choas with them. ADD is a great name for this company. They have a very scattorshot feel to them but they gave me one of my first gigs. I guess thats why I still like them.

I have been working on a way to do this. As of now you can create a poll on any of the foums and you can choose what you want the poll to be rated on. Try it out. Click add poll. If you dont see it let me know.

Well I was on tour and married (did it for 2 years). (I'm still married to him - didn't kill my relationship!) In fact I think it made my marriage stronger. Absense makes the heart grow fonder I really believe that. My husband knew that touring would help me get to the next level towards my dream job of being an account executive. He understood me, trusted me and we communicated constantly! I also found my independence after getting married I was single for awhile prior to meeting my husband (and that was the first time in my life I had "really" been single so I didn't know what independence was!) and when I met him I knew he was "the one" (thats another story for another day) but anyways I was really glad he let me find myself and my independence on the road. He knew it was something I had to do for myself before we had kids. Life is too short I say and so it was never an issue. So if I can make it being married I'm sure anyone else can. (I do want to mention that I did NOT have kids and still don't) I did hear of someone who was on tour married and had kids and I just think that is INSANE! I could never leave my kids behind. I too have seen the bad side of people dating while on the road. On a tour a couple ended up getting in such a big fight that they got each other fired! I have had to work with an engaged couple on tour and they had their "moments" but they made it work. I guess it all depends on the couple. Just my 2 cents.

I feel for that situation, but if the event was "out in the boonies," you can't really blame the agency for bringing outsiders in to work it. Although 3 hours seems to be quite a long way from anything.

I think there should be a list of promotion companies with web site and way to rate them.

I'm an ADD poster boy. I mean the Disorder not the company. It does sound like they fit the name with the lack of Attention they gave philhole86 on that promotion

lol filmbuffy, you know it would either be really good or really bad to date someone that you worked with on the road.
+ side -- travel, do alot of cool things together, work together
- side -- it would suck if you broke up and still had to work together or if you got mad at each other and had to work.

Well. I am a dork and don't have a BF, but I'm glad I don't right now cause it's a hassle while you're gone. To be honest bf/gf get in the way of work. You have to call them constantly, and email, etc. And most of the time they assume you're out "cheating" just because you're in a different city everyday. They don't understand how important work is to you.
Maybe road people should just date other road peeps?
So,--uh Hey...Murdoc? Giggity! Giggity! Giggity! Allllright!

I would love to get on the road, but I don't think it's something I could do for a very long time. Especially since I want to start a family someday.

well don't get me wrong if I can get a nice easy job I will take it. I have a MBA so you would think I could find something were I did not have to travel too much.

I've always thought about that too. When I first started promos, I was in a relationship but it wasn't anything serious. He didn't want me to leave, but I would have jumped on the first tour that came my way.(lol)

Trading the road for a desk job mrktgirl? I did that for a few years and hated it, so I quit and went back out on the road. More work less money after you factor in everything but I guess you can't be a roadie for ever. As for music for the road get a 60gig I-pod and steal music from your friends. I'm up to 7,000 songs and always stealing more. Well trading music would be the correct thing to call it but stealing is much more fun to say.

I was contacted for an interview for a company as a marketing/demo specialist. Something I applied for about 3 months ago.I wouldn't mind doing it because it would allow me to travel and I will still be basically promoting. I'm not ready to leave the world of promos though so I would do both. Anyone know anything about work like this? Any info would be appreciated.

I can't eat too much bad food or I start to feel bad. I need to eat a good dinner at least every other day. IE - steak, salad, and a few vegs

I bet anyone on the road has these problems. I can't see me staying with a girlfriend if I am going to be gone for a year or so. Not that I have one right now, but I think it would be hard to not see them as often as you where once used too. I know time would pass faster if I was not missing someone at home.

Can you add a forum about places to stop and see in different markets? Or off the beaten path things people have found on their way from point A to point B.

I've worked for them through another agency but not directly for them so I can't speak about getting hired directly. And you are right they mainly do in-store stuff with Wal-Mart. One of the agencies that use them is Always-in-Store.

As a matter of fact I still have the original email which was sent from The Staffing Authority which is Alloy/Amp's official staffing outlet. The original email in regards to that tour was send December 7. That was not even 2 months ago so how on earth did they lose the contract and marketing werks pick it up that fast?

FREE GAMES! |

By the way - for any of you "gamers" (those of you who like to bring along your x-box, ps2 or even use your cell phone for games)
If you have Verizon Wireless as your provider they are giving away free games for your cell phone. You can only download one for free but hey it's still free (you must have the "get it now" feature in order to use it). All you have to do is text message the word FREE to 82174 and it will allow you to download one game of your choice for free. Pretty cool. :) I tried it and it works...I did not receive a charge on my cell phone bill
